The Nature of Time —— Habenaria glaucifolia

Habenaria glaucifolia, also known as double leaf orchid is produced in southern Shanxi, southern Gansu, western Sichuan, Guizhou, northwest to southeast of Yunnan, and southeast of Tibet , growing under mountain forests, shrubs, or grasslands at an altitude of 2000-4300 meters.

Habenaria glaucifolia belongs to the national second-class protected palnt and is not so common on the plateau. Its leaves ar circular and grow almost against the ground. Araceme inflrescence, lips resembling curled mustaches, floers resembling ovtopuses, white and yellow in color, stems upright and slende, with a graceful temperment reminiscent of orchids, but the apperance of the flowers is slightly more open and lacks the beauty of fluidity. It seems that time has clear trajectories and oving lines, but it is also full of tentacles, details, and quantum entanglement.

What is the essence of time? This is an interesting topic.Heidegger said in “The Concept of Time” that time is a way of existence. To understand time based on time, it is seen as a special way of human existence that shapes our lives and experiences. About time, he has a poetic statement related to plants“The beauty of a flower lies in the fact that it has withered.”

Einstein believed that time is relative, withe different rates of passage depending on the frame of reference. According to the time dilation effect in special relativity, when an object’s velocity reached the speed of light, time is in a state of sthandstill for it. Hence, time is infuluenced by the observer’s motion and gravitational fields, and time and space are interconnected, not existing independently. The so called sense of time only exists at the observer’s level, that is, us humans, which implies that space and time might just be illusions of our brains.

Renowned artist Salvador Dali, based on Einstein’s statement that”time is

stretchable, hence it is elastic”. created the world famous painting”The Persistence of Memory.” In the painting, he combines reality with dream with clocks melting like cheese in the sun, all limp and soft. The tranquil landscape, the melting clocks. time is blurring and standing still.Dali believed that time is related to human memory: remembered things linger in memory, permeating with the present, creating our concept of time.Without the permeation of new memories, the world would be static, and time would cease.

Italian physicist Carlo Rovelli recently proposed in his book “Reality is Not What You See-A Journey to Quantum Gravity” that if we observe carefully, enter the quantum world, see how finer particles move, and see the essence of matter and space, the concept of time will also dissolve.Time is the result of microscopic physical states that we ignore, time is information that we do not have, time is our ignorance.

What is time? Time, like the octupus whiskers of Habenaria glaucifolia, moves with the wind. Time, like our footsteps, is driven by entropy and comes with the depiction of memory.
