Depart Chengdu

Eastern Tibet is characterized by extreme topography of steep, often precipitous mountains, with altitudes ranging from less than 2000m in some valley floors to 7558m at the summit of Mt. Minya Konka. In this journey we focus on the brilliantly beautiful landscape in Yading Nature Reserve, which is claimed to be the Shangri-la described in the 1933 novel Lost Horizon by British author James Hilton. Yading, discovered by  Joseph Rock in 1928, is renowned for the 3 holy peaks, which were blessed in the 8th century by Buddha Padmasambhava or projecting his divine light onto the range and naming the 3 elecations after 3 bodhisattvas.
